PHOTOS: Business is blooming for inaugural Harrison Tulip Festival

The inaugural Harrison Tulip Festival has been a real local hit.

Hundreds of people gathered at the Onos family farm outside of Agassiz to witness millions of flowers in bloom, including hyacinths, daffodils and the eponymous tulips.

This year marks the 18th tulip festival for founder Kate Onos-Gilbert, who also heads the Harrison Sunflower Festival and Harrison Pumpkin Festival at the Agassiz-Harrison farm. Onos-Gilbert established Tulips of the Valley in 2006 on Seabird Island before the festival moved to Chilliwack in 2016.

The inaugural festival features about 50 varieties of tulips, 15 varieties of daffodils and 12 varieties of hyacinths.

Thursdays are local days at the Harrison Tulip Festival. Those who live in the Harrison River Valley – in Agassiz, Harrison Hot Springs, Harrison Mills, Seabird Island, Sts’ailes and surrounding communities – receive a discount with proof of address.

The Onos Farm is located at 5039 Lougheed Highway. Parking is available off of nearby Cameron Road.
