Harrison Festival of the Arts lineup revealed

Iconic summer festival promises diverse music, performances

It’s beginning to look a lot like festival season.

The Harrison Festival of the Arts is coming July 12 to 21, and the Festival Society released the artist lineup on Monday, April 15.

July 13

The North Shore Celtic Ensemble takes to the beach stage at 1 p.m. with blues musician Murray Porter following up at 2:20 p.m. Mexican band Buenrostro take to the beach stage at 3:40 p.m. Victoria rocker Leeroy Stagger wraps up the first festival day on the beach stage at 5 p.m.

Creole sensations Curley Taylor and Zydeco Trouble will cap off Saturday’s performances, starting at 8 p.m. in Memorial Hall.

July 14

Vancouver-based salsa band Empanades Ilegales takes to the beach stage at 1 p.m., followed by the eccentric surf-rock duo Kitty and the Rooster at 2:20 p.m. Leeroy Stagger takes to the stage again at 3:40 p.m. followed by Buenrostro’s second performance, starting at 5 p.m.

Blues-Indian fusion artist Harry Manx performs the evening show at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Hall.

July 15

Latin group Locarno performs at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Hall. Locarno, fronted by JUNO-winning musician Tom Landa, Locarno is no stranger to the Festival, performing in 2012, 2015 and 2019.

July 16

B.C.’s own bluegrass band, Jackson Hollow, performs on the beach stage at 6:30 p.m.

July 17

It’s Children’s Day! Cosmo Circus, featuring clown Melissa Aston performs at the beach stage at 11 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. Kid-oriented comedy singers Bobs and Lolo perform from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Memorial Hall.

Fiddlers Twin Embers take the beach stage from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Folk-roots musician Suzie Ungerleider closes Wednesday’s beach stage shows at 6:30 p.m. British folk band Kathryn Tickell and the Darkening perform at Memorial Hall at 8 p.m.

July 18

Swedish-Estonian group Fränder perform at 6:30 p.m. on the beach stage. Mediterranean-flamenco powerhouse Qairo performs the evening show at Memorial Hall, starting at 8 p.m.

July 19

Yellowknife blues musician Jay Gilday performs on the beach stage at 3:20 p.m. North African techno trio Zar Electrik close out the day’s beach stage performances at 6:30 p.m.

Scottish sextet Shooglenifty returns to Harrison Hot Springs, performing at Memorial Hall at 8 p.m. Shooglenifty was the first artist revealed for this year’s lineup.

July 20

Tower of Song opens festivities on the beach stage at 1 p.m. The Leela Gilday Band goes on the beach stage at 2:20 p.m. , followed by Brazilian duo Flavia Nascimento and Tio Chorinho at 3:40 p.m. Grammy-winning African artist Dobet Gnahoré performs in Memorial Hall at 8 p.m.

July 21

Siblings Leela and Jay Gilday combine their voices as Sechile Sedare to kick off the final day of the festival on the beach stage at 1 p.m. Flavia Nascimento and Tio Chorinho return to the beach stage at 2:20 p.m. Ukrainian singer Maryna Krut performs on the beach stage at 3:40 p.m. Grammy-nominated Latin band Making Movies will start the evening on the beach stage at 5 p.m. Canadian radio mainstay Barney Bentall caps off the Festival’s performances, lighting up Memorial Hall one last time starting at 7:30 p.m.
