Boston Bar RCMP are asking the public to be careful after an increase in vehicle break-ins and thefts of catalytic converters between Yale and Boston Bar.
“As the weather is warming up, we’ve noticed a growing number of visitors exploring Alexandra Bridge Provincial Park and our scenic hiking trails in the Canyon,” said Cst. Kristi Strauss. “As a reminder, when parking your vehicle, opt for well-lit areas or those with lots of people, and ensure all valuables are removed from your vehicle.”
According to RCMP, the thefts are occuring along Highway 1 and they are asking people to report any suspicious activity around parked vehicles and parking lots.
The public can make reports to the Boston Bar RCMP non-emergency line at 604-867-9333 or call 911 for immediate assistance.
In the meantime, vehicle owners can prevent the theft of their catalytic converters by installing anti-theft products like protective cages, alarms and straps designed to deter catalytic converter theft. Owners can also adjust their vehicle security system to detect vibrations, saw as those caused by saws, and be alert for suspicious sounds from electrical tools.
Owners are asked to be especially vigilant during nighttime or when they’re parked in secluded parking lots.
